In Transit

In what was Albert Maysles’ final documentary contribution prior to his recent passing, In Transit captures the true beauty of the observational documentary style he was famous for.

This lovely film plants the camera in the carriages of Amtrak’s Empire Builder train, the busiest long-distance train route in America and in so doing observes the conversations, ruminations and interactions of dozens of its passengers.

Some are coming, some are going, some are escaping, some are dreaming, some are chasing a new life and some are just trying to find themselves on the journey – but along the way we’re treated to some beautiful moments as we go deep into the simple motivations of the passengers for their presence on the train.

In Transit is a rare slice of life with a fine contribution from one of the masters of the documentary form.

Maysles presents, in the range and diversity of In Transit, a retrospective reminder of his groundbreaking work as seminal maestro of the nonfiction form. - VARIETY
